We first coined this trend–or dressing mood as we prefer to call it–in Vogue Shopping’s FW24 trend report after key pieces (tinsel-trimmed sweaters, sleek sequin midiskirts, crystal-embellished blue jeans) made their way down the fall/winter runways and onto our radar.

Viewed as a whole, these individual moments caused us to look at our everyday staples in a totally new fashion, we’re here to put the spotlight on one It item in particular–the dazzling sequin skirt—and more importantly, how to style it. Our usual style mantra from November through December naturally leans fun, and let’s be honest, more fabulous. That can be achieved with Róhe’s silver-and-cream paillette skirt, Citizens of Humanity’s shearling-trimmed leather jacket, and a pair of stompy biker boots worn to a chic, martini-heavy cocktail hour or Mango’s metallic midi with Liberowe’s crushed-velvet ladylike jacket, and a pair of pointed-toe, kitten-heel pumps from Massimo Dutti at your nine-to-five. Otherwise, lean into a look we like to call “The Great Outdoors,” styled out with Banana Republic’s flashy gold midi, Altuzarrra’s cropped wax jacket, Cos’s argyle-printed turtleneck, and a pair of soft suede penny loafers from Saint Laurent. (If you wanted to go full Cotswolds and style the latter with a Wellington boot to spare your shoes from the rain, we won’t judge!)
Other sequin skirts stealing the show this season include classic black choices from H&M and Toccin to burgundy beauties from Vince and Massimo Dutti. Staud’s sultry sheer style also deserves its moment to shine. Wear these eight sequin skirt outfits now and into the new year–they’ve got the runway seal of approval, after all.
Where Edgy Meets Elegant
One of our favorite styling tricks this fall and winter? Layering a slouchy leather bomber jacket atop a dainty slip skirt or dress. The chic closet combination was a go-to amongst the fashion crowd this season, spotted on some of Vogue’s very own to top retail-execs on the scene. Get the edgy yet elegant look below, starting with Citizens of Humanity’s shearling-collar jacket, Róhe’s minimalist sequin midiskirt, and Alex Mill’s Fair Isle crewneck sweater. A pair of stompy biker boots from Mango help drive the look home.
Ladylike Energy
Collarless blazers and flared A-line skirts are two cornerstones of the prim and proper ladylike look, which has dominated our shopping carts for the past few seasons. This winter those everyday staples get a festive twist in crushed velvet and silver-foil sequin, courtesy of Liberowe and Mango. Polish off the look in a pair of pointed-toe, kitten-heels from Massimo Dutti and Savette’s glossy leather top-handle bag.
Countryside Coded
There was no denying that on the FW24 runways, the countryside was calling. With the spotlight on sturdy wax jackets built to withstand the elements, après-ski-approved Fair Isle sweaters, heavyweight corduroy pants, and preppy plaid shirts, styling-wise, each of these prized pieces look as good worn all-together as they do separately, including with an everyday-festive sequin skirt. Here, wear Altuzarra’s corduroy-trimmed jacket with Banana Republic’s gold sequin midi, Cos’s argyle turtleneck top, and a pair of sumptuous brown suede loafers from Saint Laurent.
Sheer Story
Don’t be intimidated by the sheer skirt this fall and winter! The unlikely cold-weather wardrobe essential has long been a favorite of the street style scene, worn with chunky knits to sleek black boots. Below, Staud’s beige sequin beauty is the star of the show. Style it alongside Ganni’s hooded toggle coat, Aeyde’s pointed-toe knee boots, and Everlane’s alpaca-blend cardigan. The result? A polished outfit idea to try for everyday.
A Touch of Burgundy
Of all the fall-to-winter colors to consider this season, rich burgundy is an undeniable choice. Not only does it have the street style seal of approval, but the runway one, too, where it was sprinkled in at Gucci, Bottega Veneta, and even Miu Miu. Instead of reaching for a burgundy handbag or piece of footwear, pick this mulled wine paillette sequin skirt from Vince. Styling-wise, it’s a festive foundation for classic wardrobe staples, like Lisa Yang’s cashmere crewneck, a pair of metallic ballet flats from Le Monde Beryl, and The Frankie Shop’s chic camel coat, to shine.
Western Flare
Thanks to an influx of Western-inspired It items, such as plaid flannel shirts and suede boots, these relaxed staples make their way out of the saloon and onto the city streets. Get the rodeo-ready look, below, with Polo Ralph Lauren’s chocolate-check overshirt, Tory Burch’s feather-fringed sequin skirt, and sleek suede accessories from Khaite and The Row. Cowboy hat optional!
Classic, With a Twist
We love it when designers take a classic wardrobe essential and turn up the sartorial dial with an unexpected, yet totally welcome twist. Take this billowing blouse from Carven, for example. With an artful draped silhouette and slight open back, it has the same closet appeal as a go-to white button-up, but with a more fashion-forward finish. The same goes for Toccin’s black sequin pencil skirt–a staple also worth bringing to the boardroom. Style the two this fall and winter with A.L.C’s shearling coat and a pair of matching faux fur-lined sandals from Emme Parsons.
A Mini Moment
Don’t let your sequin midiskirts have all the fun this holiday season! Instead, show a little leg in Frame’s sequin black mini. If you prefer a bit more coverage, you can always style it with a sheer black tight, of course. Other-wise, wear it with H&M’s standout turtleneck sweater, Madewell’s leather-collar field jacket, and a pair of cherry red penny loafers from Legres.
