As if just leaving the rocky beach sides of the Mediterranean Sea, models donning colorful net jelly sandals walked The Row’s pre-fall 2024 runway collection in Paris, prompting an Olsen-twin-approved return of the controversially stylish but undoubtedly practical summer shoe. While fisherman sandals have made quite an impact on the summer-footwear market as of late, I’m not sure I would have predicted the waterproof sandal to make a comeback this summer without the debut of The Row’s Mara version on the runways in September. With all four colorways already sold out, you can definitely expect the rubbery-net vacation shoe to be all over your Instagram feeds this summer, from the streets of New York to European coastlines.

Vogue’s Favorite Jelly Sandals

For those who missed their chance nabbing a pair of The Row’s cage flats (or perhaps don’t want to drop $890 on a set of PVC shoes), there are other similar iterations on the market, from high-street and contemporary accessory labels to brandless look-alikes similar to those vintage pairs you might have stumbled upon on your travels (that are now conveniently sold on Amazon).

The jelly material has been tapped for far more than just fisherman-style sandals this season. Flip-flops and beach-ready slides from Ancient Greek Sandals, Loewe, and Tory Burch also come in colorful transparent rubber, and Gucci and Valentino even offer logo-stamped styles. (One could argue that Sun Jelly or Melissa brand fisherman sandals are evergreen versions of the summer shoe, but you can contribute to a return in popularity with The Row’s fresh runway take.)

Wonderfully weird and certainly playful in its aesthetic, the jelly sandal is also ultraconvenient when it comes to the effortlessness required when dealing with sun, surf, and sand. It’s no wonder they make for the perfect vacation shoe for all ages. Shop all favorites, below.
